Prices by route (2026, 2nd class)

All prices are the official Rhätische Bahn fares for 2026 in 2nd class, per person, one-way. EUR equivalents use a CHF→EUR rate of roughly 1 CHF = 1.05 EUR (Spring 2026). Use them as a guide only — the actual EUR price at checkout depends on the day.

Route Red Train Bernina Express · ticket Reservation Total (BEX all-in)
Tirano ↔ St. Moritz · one-way CHF 33 CHF 33 CHF 32 CHF 65
Tirano ↔ St. Moritz · round-trip CHF 66 CHF 66 CHF 64 CHF 130
Chur ↔ St. Moritz · one-way CHF 38 CHF 38 CHF 38
Chur ↔ Tirano · one-way · low season CHF 66 CHF 66 CHF 40 CHF 106
Chur ↔ Tirano · one-way · peak season CHF 66 CHF 66 CHF 44 CHF 110

EUR figures are converted at ~1 CHF = 1.05 EUR (rate as of spring 2026). For the exact EUR amount, book in CHF on RhB and let your bank convert, or pay the slightly higher reseller price in EUR with no exchange surprise.

Seat reservations

For the Bernina Express the seat reservation is mandatory and sold separately. For the Red Train it is optional. On both trains the reservation is per leg — round-trip means paying twice.

BEX reservation · Tirano ↔ St. Moritz CHF 32 · year-round
BEX reservation · Chur ↔ Tirano · low season CHF 40
BEX reservation · Chur ↔ Tirano · peak season CHF 44
Red Train reservation · optional CHF 5 · per leg

Children, dogs, groups

Children

Under 6 travel free with a fare-paying adult. Ages 6 to 16 pay half the adult ticket fare. The seat reservation on the Bernina Express is the same price for children as for adults — no discount.

Dogs

Small dogs in a carrier travel free. Larger dogs need a dog ticket at half the adult fare. EU pet passport, microchip and current rabies vaccination are required for the Italy ↔ Switzerland border crossing.

Groups (10+)

RhB offers group discounts for parties of 10 or more — typically 20 % off the standard fare. Reservations must be arranged through the RhB group sales desk in advance.

How to save on tickets

01

Use RhB Last-Minute fares

Rhätische Bahn sells a limited number of Bernina Express tickets from CHF 79 (Chur ↔ Tirano, all-in) as last-minute deals via the official site. Subject to availability — book the day before travel.

02

Take the Red Train instead of the BEX

You ride on the same UNESCO tracks for half the price. The trade-off is the panorama-glass roof, the at-seat service and the reserved seat. For most travellers on the Tirano ↔ St. Moritz section the trade-off is clearly in favour of the Red Train.

03

Travel in low season for cheaper BEX reservation

The Bernina Express reservation for the full Chur ↔ Tirano route drops from CHF 44 (peak) to CHF 40 (low season). The short section Tirano ↔ St. Moritz is CHF 32 year-round — no seasonal saving there.

04

Round-trip in EUR with free cancellation

If you need flexibility (e.g. weather-dependent trip planning), the GetYourGuide round-trip Red Train ticket adds free cancellation up to 24 h before departure in exchange for a slightly higher EUR price. Useful if you might change your day.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I buy the cheapest ticket?
Directly on rhb.ch in Swiss francs. The official Rhätische Bahn site has the lowest possible price for every fare — there is no discount for booking elsewhere. EUR-priced resellers add a 20–35 % premium for currency conversion, mobile vouchers and free cancellation.
Is the Bernina Express reservation included in the ticket?
On Rhätische Bahn the reservation is sold separately — you add it to the ticket in the booking flow. On GetYourGuide and Headout the reservation is bundled with the ticket as one product, which is convenient but typically more expensive than booking each piece individually on RhB.
What is the price for children?
Children under 6 travel free. Children aged 6 to 16 pay half the adult ticket fare. The Bernina Express seat reservation costs the same for adults and children. Families with foreign Swiss Travel Pass holders may qualify for the Swiss Family Card, which lets children travel free with a fare-paying parent.
Are there group discounts?
Yes. Groups of 10 or more get roughly 20 % off the standard fare on RhB. Reservations must be arranged through the RhB group sales desk in advance, not through the public booking flow.
Are there last-minute deals on the Bernina Express?
Yes — Rhätische Bahn sells a limited contingent of all-in Bernina Express tickets from CHF 79 (Chur ↔ Tirano) as last-minute fares on the official site. Availability is not guaranteed. If your dates are flexible, check the RhB last-minute page the day before travel.
Why is GetYourGuide more expensive than RhB?
You are paying a markup for three real things: EUR pricing (no currency conversion surprise on your card), a mobile voucher that works without a printed ticket, and free cancellation up to 24 h before departure. For flexible travellers who want a smooth experience and do not mind paying 20–35 % more, it is a reasonable trade. For cost-conscious travellers, RhB direct wins.
