About this tour

Autostradale runs this tour daily out of Milano Centrale and it is the most-booked Bernina day trip on GetYourGuide. The format is straightforward: air-conditioned coach to Tirano, Bernina Red Train to St. Moritz, walking tour and free time, coach back. A live multilingual guide stays with the group throughout the day.

The meeting point is the Autostradale bus stop at Piazza 4 Novembre, right next to Milano Centrale at the corner of Hotel Gallia — easy to find, with the operator’s logo on the kiosk. The coach leaves on time. The first section of the road north passes through several tunnels, so the scenery picks up as you approach the lakes and the Valtellina valley.

You board the Bernina Red Train in 2nd class with windows you can open for photos. The train climbs around 2 hours through the Brusio Spiral Viaduct, along Lago di Poschiavo, past Alp Grüm and over the Bernina Pass. You see the Palü Glacier, Lago Bianco and the Morteratsch Glacier on the descent. The train can occasionally run in reverse, or as far as Thusis instead of Tirano, depending on operational conditions.

After arriving, you get about 1 hour 30 minutes in St. Moritz with a short guided walk. The return coach takes the scenic Maloja Pass back down. Typical return to Milan is around 20:30. The whole tour runs about 12 hours.
